Below are 5 tips to help make sure it happens 👇

TIP 1 – START YOUR PREP ON DAY 1 OF 3RD YEAR:

Outstanding results on CK require an outstanding amount of planning and effort.

Your CK prep should start on the first day of your CK training.

TIP 2 – DEDICATE 2HRS/DAY TO STUDY/REVIEW:

Consistent results require consistent effort.

Committing yourself to just 2hrs of either learning new info or reviewing old info, every single day, will yield exponential results.

Find your ideal study time (AM vs PM) and commit yourself to sitting down and doing the work.

TIP 3 – FOCUS ON ‘NEXT BEST STEPS’ EARLY:

The Step 2 CK exam is full of ‘next best step’ questions…

The best piece of advice that I can give you based on my experience and my team’s experience working with students over the last decade is this…

Have a system for documenting ‘next best steps’… I prefer old-school index cards, but do whatever you’ll stay consistent with.

Every time a ‘next best step’ scenario pops up, whether in the hospital or on a question – write it down.

Integrate a review of your ‘next best step’ information into your daily 2hr review sessions and you’ll reap incredible rewards for this effort on exam day.

TIP 4 – MASTER FOUNDATIONS, THEN DETAILS:

Yes, an outstanding score on your CK will require that you know the details exceptionally well…

But you have to… I repeat: HAVE TO… Know your foundations first.

Foundations set the stage for answering around 70% of the questions you’ll get on exam day… Without the foundation, the details are a guessing-game.

Focus first on building a rock-solid foundation….

Then you can dig into the nitty-gritty details that will take your score to the next level.

TIP 5 – BUILD STUDY NOTES FROM SHELF PREP:

Most schools require that you take a shelf exam after each core rotation.

Using this as an opportunity to build the foundations of each core rotation is one of the best ways to approach your broader CK prep.

My advice: Treat your shelf exam prep (and results) as though your career depends on it… Build outstanding study notes as you go and review them regularly.

This single tip alone will get you 90% of the way to your dream USMLE Step 2 CK result.
